Meet the Artist

Sophie Morgan, born in 1985 in Sussex, England, is a portrait painter and fine artist working in figurative art and the classical tradition.

Based in Scotland, she works in oil on linen, drawing on a technical grounding developed across Goldsmiths, the London Fine Art Studios, and the Florence Academy of Art.

Morgan's practice is concerned with what it means to inhabit a disabled body: the physical reality of paralysis, the lived experience of disability, and the persistent absence of disabled figures from the Western figurative canon.

Working within the conventions of classical portraiture, she brings disabled bodies into a tradition that has historically excluded them, not as a corrective gesture, but as a formal and deliberate act.

A forthcoming series of portraits of well-known disabled figures, launching in 2027, extends this inquiry into the territory of legacy and visibility.

Morgan's work is held in various private collections. Her painting has reached wide audiences through appearances on Sky's Celebrity Portrait Artist of the Year and BBC's The Apprentice.
